Change the World was established at Frostburg United Methodist Church in 2011. The Baltimore-Washington Conference asked churches to do something to “change the world” in their local community. FUMC decided to support the Interfaith Food Pantry by holding a Curb-Side Food Drive. Community members simply pull up to the curb in front of the church and volunteers collect their non-perishable food donation or monetary contribution. The United Methodist Men traditionally serve a delicious breakfast and the United Methodist Women coordinate a soup and sandwich lunch for volunteers that is also open to the community. To date, the church has collected over 3,000 pounds of food and over $4,000 for the Interfaith Food Pantry.
In 2013, FUMC decided to expand to Cumberland. In the afternoon, volunteers hand out free bagged meals to those in need and also offer individuals prayer and counsel. In 2014 the church expanded the event again and asked the congregation and community to donate new and gently used backpacks and duffle bags to be given to Pressley Ridge, an organization who places youth in foster homes in Allegany, Garrett and Washington counties. Most often these kids carry their belongings in a trash bag. This year we collected 110 bags!
Change the World continues to expand and grow! If you would like more information, or would like to get involved in this event, please contact the church office.
